Sentencing Guidelines for Robbery

The Definitive Guideline for Robbery has been published today by the Sentencing Council in accordance with section 120 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.

This guideline is applicable to all offenders aged 18 and older and will come into force on 1 April 2016.  The guidelines cover offences under section 8(1) of the Theft Act 1968 and are separated into three groups; street and less sophisticated commercial robberies; professionally planned commercial robberies; and dwelling  robberies.

The definitive guideline has been produced following a process of research and analysis and public consultation.
