Nominations for Honorary Queen’s Counsel
The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has opened the 2014/15 round of Queen’s Counsel honoris causa awards by inviting nominations. This process leads to recommendations being made to Her Majesty for the appointment of Queen’s Counsel honoris causa. The appointments will be made alongside the new substantive Queen’s Counsel in spring 2015. The announcement can be found on our website: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/honorary-qc-nominations-deadline-12-september-2014 which includes details of the appointment criteria and how to make a nomination. Nominations are invited from any interested member of the public. The nomination period will close on the 9 September 2014.
Nominations will be considered within the Ministry of Justice by a Selection Panel, which will be comprised of:
Two senior Ministry of Justice Officials;
1. a judge;
2. a legal academic; and
3. Two-to-three representatives of the professional bodies (lawyers or lay staff).
As part of this process we usually contact as many professional associations as possible who we think may have an interest in the nomination process. Therefore, in that respect we would welcome you bringing this letter to the attention of any firm/organisation or individual that you think may have an interest in the honorary QC awards.
