To mark UK Black History Month, Allen & Overy’s BAME network, Race and Ethnicity @A&O is delighted to invite you to an evening with Sir Trevor McDonald. Sir Trevor McDonald was ITN’s first black newscaster and is one of the UK’s most recognisable broadcasters. He became a household name in 1992 after becoming the sole presenter of News at Ten. During a long and distinguished career, Sir Trevor has conducted many notable interviews and was awarded a knighthood for his services to journalism. UK Black History Month continues to be an important event and one that A&O is proud to celebrate. This year’s celebrations also coincide with a couple of significant anniversaries. 2018 is the 70th anniversary of the Windrush arriving in Britain bringing one of the first large groups of post-war West Indian immigrants. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Race Relations Act, a significant piece of legislation making it illegal to refuse housing, employment, or public services to a person on the grounds of colour, race, ethnic or national origins. The evening will provide guests with an opportunity to hear Sir Trevor speak about his experiences as one of the first black newsreaders on television. The Race and Ethnicity @ A&O Committee |
