BSN City/Freshfields: Spotlight on Nigeria – Financial Markets (8 Sept)
September 8, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Spotlight on Nigeria – Financial Markets
2015 has been a year of contrasts for Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy. The elation surrounding the historic victory by opposition party leader Muhammadu Buhari in Nigeria’s presidential election has been coupled with the ongoing challenge of power generation and growing concerns regarding falling oil prices which continue to adversely affect Nigeria’s private and state owned oil companies, government revenues and national foreign currency reserves. In this unprecedented political and economic environment, what role will be played by domestic and international banks, DFIs, private equity and other regional and offshore investors or financial institutions in raising financing and investing in other parts of the local economy to continue the diversification away from natural resources?
This panel event, involving leading market participants, will discuss the potential effect of the new political leadership and macroeconomic outlook on investment in Nigeria and the role of local and international banks, private equity and debt capital markets in driving economic growth as well as the challenges faced by offshore and onshore investors.
