The Law Society’s Ethic Minority Lawyers Division Pilot Peer Support Event for BAME Members

The Law Society is launching a peer support programme aimed at black and minority ethnic (BAME) solicitors. BAME solicitors face a number of challenges which include career development, stress management, disproportionate regulatory interventions. The pilot initiative will be developed in recognition of the essential role solicitors can play in supporting and encouraging one another. Peer support involves people drawing on shared personal experience to provide knowledge, social interaction, or practical help to each other, often in a way that is mutually beneficial.

In practical terms, the event will start with a welcome from a senior Law Society representative. The launch will comprise a number of roundtable discussions where attendees will have the opportunity to discuss work related and professional issues in a safe and confidential environment. Attendees will obtain support and alternative approaches to dealing with challenging issues/situations.

The launch event will lay the platform for a future programme of ongoing support, which will be rolled out in the shape of webinars, local peer support groups and online forums.

This event is open to BAME solicitors working in legal practices in England and Wales. The event will be of interest to those running their own firm, in-house solicitors, public sector lawyers and solicitors working in large commercial sector.
