Joan Scott is an In-House Commercial and Corporate Legal Counsel and the current
Chair of the Black Solicitors Network – City Group, having been appointed as a BSN
Board Director in December 2023.
In her professional capacity, Joan has a multidisciplinary and international background having
worked across a broad range of sectors including the automotive industry, retail, oil & gas, and law
enforcement, both here in the UK and internationally in Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands. She has sat on a number of international Advisory Boards including as a member of the European Police Agency’s (EUROPOL) IP Crime Coordinated Coalition, Expert Working Group member for the European IP Office (EUIPO), and represented multinationals at the European Commission and European Parliament on trade and IP related matters.
A passionate advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, as the current Chair of BSN’s City Group,
Joan is keen to help drive initiatives that support and promote greater ethnic diversity in the
profession, both for qualified and aspiring lawyers. She is committed to develop initiatives that
champion the promotion of black lawyers to the highest ranks of the profession as well as giving
back to communities such as promoting educational attainment for black students in schools and
universities. Recently ranked in the Top 10 of the 2024 Empower Top 100 Future Leader Role Model
List and Nominated as a 2023 Law Society Legal Hero for her work in DEI and Mentorship, Joan
continues to use her voice, experiences and position to advocate on behalf of BSN members.
