The Role
The Senior Master leads eight Queen’s Bench Division masters, under the direction of the President and Vice-President of the Queen’s Bench Division. He or she will be required to ensure the efficient management of the courts by arranging the working practices of the QB Masters and taking responsibility for their case loads, sitting arrangements, general welfare and training.
The Senior Master is expected to take a leading role in the modernisation of the department, working with other members of the judiciary and HMCTS staff to ensure that the output of the department remains high.
The Senior Master hears and manages the most serious civil claims in the QBD, has responsibility for Group Litigation Orders, Orders for Statements in Open Court (libel) and supervises High Court Enforcement Officers.
The Senior Master is also the Prescribed Officer for Election Petitions, the Central Authority for all foreign judicial matters, the Prescribed Officer for election disputes, and the Queen’s Remembrancer.
